I believe there is a big misconception around self-care. People overthink self-care.
“I need to wait until the weekend.”
“I don’t have any money.”
From the very beginning, I’ve stressed that you define what self-care is to you and how you will practice it. There is no right or wrong way to practice self-care. The idea is to consistently take care of yourself, both physically and mentally.
From what I’ve seen, people don’t look at self-care as a necessity. It’s just merely something to do after they’re completely gassed out. The idea is to take care of yourself every single day, not just on the weekend so that you never get to the point of complete exhaustion. Throughout my self-care journey, I’ve learned a couple of things that I want to share.
Self-care doesn’t have to be a hassle.
Define what self-care means to you.
There is no set way to practice self-care. Self-care is what you make it. The goal is to take care of you.
To start my self-care journey, I created a self-care plan. A self-care plan is an individual’s detailed approach to executing self-care efficiently in their life. In simple words, a self-care plan is your guide to practicing self-care efficiently. Creating a self-care plan will help you target your needs to fit your comfortability and lifestyle. I created my self-care plan specifically for my needs, stressors, habits, and coping mechanisms. I practice self-care daily with simple tasks. My self-care journey has been fun and not a hassle. I’ve learned the importance of taking care of myself more than ever in the last year. Practicing self-care is a necessity for me.
Do not overwork yourself.
Take time to relax and regroup.
I think we can all admit to sometimes until complete exhaustion to regroup, relax and decompress. Bad idea. Nothing good happens when you put yourself under extreme pressure. Every single day you should do at least one activity that focuses on taking care of yourself. You decide what that is based on your needs, stressors, lifestyle, and coping mechanisms. Self-care is taking care of yourself EVERY single day. Don’t wait until the weekend to prioritize self-care. Dedicate time to relax and regroup in between your daily tasks. Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed.
Self-care is showing yourself some appreciation.
Be your own biggest fan.
Self-care is all about focusing on you. You matter. You are important. Do things that make you feel important and loved. When you take care of yourself, you feel good about yourself. Treat yourself.
Encourage the growth and development of your mind with affirmations.
I always talk about affirmations. Reciting affirmations is the perfect way to practice self-care daily. Affirm your mind.
Affirmations are statements that you write or say, which helps you to challenge and overcome negative thoughts. Affirmations are so powerful because if you say them repeatedly you begin to manifest them into your brain, eventually, you will begin to believe them. Manifest positivity and growth in your life. Affirmations are also great for building confidence and self-esteem. The key to affirmations is reciting them aloud with conviction. Say it like you mean it.
Practicing self-care can be as simple as sleeping in or as extravagant as getting a mani-pedi.
How you practice self-care is up to you. Self-care can be simple or extravagant and well planned. Self-care doesn’t have to be pricey. You can ball on a budget or spend no money at all. Self-care is for you, fit it to your lifestyle.

The simple tasks done to practice self-care are known as self-care activities. Self-care activities are activities or tasks that focus on relaxing and stimulating the mind.
The most important part to practicing self-care is picking your self-care activities. Activities should be personalized to fit your needs, stressors, etc.
